Your name is Ché Chin King, so why the name “Chebutta”?
“So there IS a story behind the name! I did not personally come up with the name! I was recording in studio when the producer said, “Man, your voice is like Butta! Like Ché Butta!” We laughed and I gave no real thought to it. But wherever we were he called me “Chébutta”. Before long others heard the name and no matter how much I introduced myself as Ché Chin King, people held on to “Chébutta”. So I decided to just go with it!” - Ché AKA Chébutta
Ché, largely recognized as ChéButta (Check out the reason why to your left), is an Atlanta based Lyric Coloratura Soprano. She is married to her best friend Joe Chin King and is mommy to 2 beautiful children!
Ché was just 6 months old when her Aunt first heard her humming in her crib. No one in the family believed the baby was singing, until to their surprise she began humming during family worship!
At the tender age of 2, Ché sang her first solo in church. Then at 4 yrs old she opened for a well known artist at the time, Richard Smallwood. Through the years Ché has shared the stage with many gifted artists and instrumentalists from Larnelle Harris to Latrice Pace, Zebulon Ellis, and Natalie Ragins!
In 2014 and 2020 she performed and recorded with Atlanta’s Black Nativity Stage Play, an African American telling of the Christmas Nativity story produced by Dominion Entertainment. In 2021 she released her first original single “From God” - her expression of what a song From God to his children would sound like. With beautiful thought provoking lyrics, the song has a relaxing Bossa Nova beat, harmonies, and movement that causes your heart to soar as it modulates and leaves you wanting more! Though at times you will catch her singing Jazz, Classical, Bossa Nova, and the blues, Chébutta is a Jesus-loving-Gospel-Christian-indie-artist with the effortlessly smooth voice of an angel!
In 2024 Chébutta released “Hymnagination”, her first 5 song EP. Hymnagination, a collaboration with Accompanist Seth Durand, is a sanctuary of creativity and worship; where timeless melodies of hymns intertwine with boundless imagination. It is a place where the joy and beauty of God are celebrated through vibrant expressions of faith, art, and wonder. In the words of Chébutta, it’s “… the beginnings of Disney-Broadway-Jesus-Music”. Chébutta’s love and unique interpretations of unforgettable hymns shines through each song! Hymnagination is available to stream now on all platforms!
